Wow! What a terrific time we had last Monday feasting our eyes on Terri Degenkolb’s fabric designs and gorgeous quilts! Terri is a fabric designer with Windham Fabrics, and we learned all about the process from artistic conception to printing fabric runs to retail distribution. She was a fascinating guest speaker, and we enjoyed every minute of her presentation.
Terri grew up in a rural Midwest town surrounded by corn fields, animals and nature. Combining her rural upbringing with her current life in suburbia and her longing to be a big city girl, her creations have a traditional feel with a bit of a modern twist and a healthy dose of playfulness. She is a wife, a mom, an entrepreneur, a graphic designer, a writer, an artist, and a quilter. But it is all of these things woven together that makes her company, Whimsicals, what it is today and whether she is working with fabric, paint on canvas, a computer and mouse, or words on a screen, it is the process of creating that brings her joy.
Terri’s style has brightened up since her Red Rooster days, and she especially enjoys piecing intricate borders. Here are just a few photos to inspire your own quilting!
