Charity Sewing Ideas

During the recent Breakout Room session on our January Zoom meeting, Pat Jones shared an idea she is using for her “Just Make One” Charity quilt challenge. She is sewing along with a BOW Mystery project with Deb Heatherly. The QAL is run through her Facebook group and involves using the Creative Grids Rulers. What a great idea! The QAL is free, except there is a ruler that is being used to make the blocks.

You don’t have to follow that QAL, but it’s definitely a neat way to use the concept of sewing along with 1 block a month/week, so that at the end you will have a set of blocks to use for your “Just Make One” Charity quilt.

Here are some links to Free QALs that are taking place:

Swirling Stars with Fat Quarter Shop
Home Is…. with Pat Sloan
American Quilter’s Stitch Along with Lisa Bonegan
Scrap Dance Pachanga with From My Carolina Home
2021 Mystery QAL with On Williams Street
Old School BOM with Persimmon Dreams
2021 Mystery BOM with A Quilting Life
Hands All Around with Barbara Brackman

Some of these are mystery blocks and some are not, you can chose which version of playing along that you prefer! If you don’t see one you like, just do a web search of “2021 Quilt Alongs” and you will likely go down a rabbit hole of possibilities! And if those don’t thrill you, Moda has done Blockhead QALs for the past few years, check out this site for the archive of patterns.
