April’s General Meeting

The general meeting for April brought April Showers, but that’s OK, we were dry inside. April also brought us the delightful Catherine Redford who shared her journey to becoming a noted quilt maker.

Catherine shared her first experience with quilting when her daughter was earning her Girl Scout badge. She brought home pieces of fabric to sew together for a quilt block and they proceeded to seam it together with 5/8″ seam allowances. She said they never were asked to redo the block, she’s pretty sure someone took it apart and re-seamed it. From there her path to quilt making took twists and turns until it brought her to where she is today, teaching and lecturing on Free Motion Quilting and creating things of beauty. Something Catherine shared today spoke to me, in essence we should not worry about perfection, but always strive for improvement. In my Free Motion Quilting I am always lamenting my lack of perfect shapes and lines, but if I look from previous works to current ones, I can always find improvement!

A big Thank You to all those who continue to donate time, materials, and purchased items for the various charities and needs of our community. Your hearts are soooo huge!!

Our Show and Tell for the day was full of wonderful pieces that our members create with their talent

Our April BOM was the beautiful Butterfly. 3 winners were able to take home their favorite blocks. May’s BOM can be found here.

And we want to acknowledge the generosity of this wonderful guild. Julie Putman reports she collected 42 Hearts for the Schwarz Cancer Center in Carmel, IN. Thank you to all those who have given from their heart!
